PIANO AND ITALIAN PIANO MUSIC FROM THE NINETEENTH CENTURY UNTIL THE PRESENT
Conference, Piano Marathon and Rount table discussion
Sala Accademica of the Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra
6th-7th July 2022 | Piazza S. Agostino 30 - ROMA
The Conference "Piano and Italian piano music from the Nineteenth century until
the present" is part of the research activity that the Association supports, abiding by the statutory rules,
alongside the organization of concerts.
From several conversations occurred with Antonio Rostagno emerged the intention to organize a two-phase conference:
the first in Novara, on 27th November 2021, and
the second the following year in Rome. The
initiative, welcomed with enthusiasm by illustrious scholars and notable pianists, deserved the representative medal
of the President of the Republic. The Roman edition, that will take place on 6th and 7th July, extending the
attention to the didactic and constructive aspects of the piano, avails itself of the collaboration of "Assonanze", a
cultural and musicological association of students, doctoral students and scholars from the University "La Sapienza"
in Rome.
As in the previous edition, also the present conference includes a Piano Marathon,
expressly devoted to piano Studies written by a large number of internationally acclaimed Italian ocmposers. This
repertoire is proposed in four distinct concerts entrusted to four young pianists, whose talent allows them to face
the considerable technical and interpretative commitment these pieces require.
The whole event ends with a Round table discussion benefiting from the
participation of AIARP, the Italian association of piano tuners and repairers. This presence enlarges and completes
the survey thanks to the contribution of technicians, craftsmen and piano makers which allows students and teachers
to examine in depth the features of piano evolution, an instrument created in Italy by the genius of Bartolomeo Cristofori.
